Patrick Maguire, RLA, LEED AP®

Managing Principal

Patrick is the President and Founding Principal of Activitas. He received Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (minor Urban Horticulture) degrees from the University of Rhode Island, both with High Distinction. While at Rhode Island, he was the two-time captain of the men’s soccer team where he was a NCAA Region 1 All-American goalkeeper. He went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in 1994.

His career began as a designer in a small firm specializing in high-end residential, institutional and philanthropic landscape projects. He later joined a larger firm where he initially participated in secondary school designs, commercial landscapes, and higher education landscape master plans before beginning an independent group specializing in athletic and recreation planning for private secondary schools, universities, and professional sports clients.

Patrick began Activitas in 2010 to create a more nimble design-based practice that is equally recognized for its excellence in planning, traditional landscape architecture and athletic facility design. The firm is grounded in its philosophy of steady, incremental and organic growth with select clients seeking long-term partnerships with our exceptional and committed staff.

Patrick has completed award-winning projects around the globe, spanning North America, Europe and Asia including projects in England, Greece, Israel and the United Arab Emirates. He is one of the most awarded landscape architects in the athletic and recreation design community, and sits on several industry boards and committees. In addition to having served on the NFL’s Game Day Surfaces Committee, Patrick is the Technical Committee Chair for the Synthetic Turf Council and sits on the Editorial Board for the American Sports Builders Association’s Sports Field Construction and Maintenance Manual.
