Mark Novak, RLA

Design Principal 

Mark began his landscape architecture career in 1998 after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University. Mark has amassed extensive knowledge of design from his years of experience, and consistently leads his local, national and international clients through exceptional award-winning projects.

As Activitas’ Design Principal, Mark has a hand in each project that moves through the office. His eye for design is both unique and critical; it is essential in identifying and addressing challenges during the design process which minimizes the potential for issues during construction. His ability to step back and see the “bigger picture” throughout a project’s development helps to ensure that the proposed path is the best and most appropriate; a trait of great importance to our clients—old, new or future. Mark also manages community outreach and engagement strategies for our projects.

Mark is a recognized expert in the design of athletic and recreational surfaces, facilities and parks. He has published several articles on athletic field design, construction, and maintenance and has served as an expert witness on synthetic turf cases in both the United States and Canada. Mark maintains a consistent focus on professional development; he previously served as Chairman for the Synthetic Turf Council’s Task Force on Synthetic Turf Infill and Pads and is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences related to the business of athletic field and facility design.

Outside of the office you’ll find Mark working in his yard, at the beach or attending soccer and basketball games for his two sons in Scituate, MA.
